Happy Birthday!!!

Drum Roll . . .

Baby J has arrived. Not exactly on a red carpet, but latex and gauze served even better. Baby J made her appearance without incident this morning, Monday, September 24 at 8:12, via cesarean section. Baby J seemed to be quite put-out at the impudence of the two doctors who rudely extricated her from her warm, though wet, hiding place.

She seems to have recuperated from the surprising event and is doing well. At 8 lbs. 1 oz. and 19 inches long she is a beautiful brown-haired, squinched-up baby. She came with a complete set of all the regular accoutrements: 10 fingers, 10 toes, two ears, etc. She has thick little thighs, a barrel chest, and broad shoulders. She looks the picture of health. She has a very cute cry and loves to cuddle with her mom.

She had a bewildering few moments when we tried to get her to nurse the first time, but she caught on quickly, and, at the second go, she did a superstar job--her parents are so proud.

Here are a few pictures of Baby J.

Mom and Baby are doing well, both resting.

A Fairy Tale

Once upon a time there was a beautiful queen and handsome king who lived in a magical land with their children: a prodigious prince, and precocious princess.

The queen and king were about to augment the royal family with the addition of another princess, but the princess refused to
come. So the queen and king waited, and waited, and waited.

Until one day, the princess-to-be's fairy-godmother, Nai Nai, waived her magic wand, and, with a "bibbity bobbity boo," the palace was decorated for an unexpected baby shower, complete with gifts and games.

Grateful for the diversion, the royal family celebrated the much anticipated, though much belated, arrival of their unpunctual daughter. All the guests enjoyed a dandy time, playing pin the diaper, measure mommy'stummy, and other sundry and cleaver games, and of course, the gifts were the wonderful type only a fairy-godmother can supply.

The baby still hasn't come; reports indicated that the stork has been blown of course, but is expected to reach Utah Valley by Monday.

The King's messengers are poised to spread the news far and wide as soon as her royal highness, the princess Inky Winky, deems to make her illustrious appearance.
